TerraForma
August 2023 - March 2024
Inspired by the joys of early friendslop games, TerraForma aimed to re-create the Rimworld Multiplayer experience through a first person perspective. Ultimately killed by over-ambitious use of plugins with unresolvable dependencies, Unity's general attitude towards developers around 2024, and my decision to un-shelve Glyphscape after a few months of palate cleansing.
Even though the game was not anywhere near completed, I did build some interesting systems and learn some valuable insights into large world generation. One day, some of the pieces will be re-built in gdscript. One day.
Things I Learned:
-
Portal-based occlusion culling
-
Quadtree terrain rendering
-
Wavefunction collapse generation
-
PBR shaders
-
Finite State Machines
-
Multiplayer is hard
Cube Game
July 2018 - April 2019
This was my first big "bit off more than I could chew" project. Also my first project.
